The Joker LEGO minifigure came out in 2005 when The LEGO Group first announced the Batman Licensed LEGO sets. The Joker is also a part of some of the Super Heroes LEGO sets as well.

Many fans have wondered about a LEGO Joker based on the Joker version played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. While a minifig based on that character would be awesome, I don't know that LEGO is up for something like that. First of all, the Heath Ledger-based Joker is just far too dark of character for LEGO to want to represent. Secondly, Heath Ledger's untimely passing is also enough for LEGO to want to stay away from such a creation.
Fortunately for those who insist on a Heath Ledger version of a LEGO Joker minifig, there are plenty out there that do custom minifig work and sell them on ebay.
